About Tako

Tako van Popta is currently the Member of Parliament for Langley – Aldergrove and was first elected to the House of Commons in 2019 and was re-elected in 2021. Prior to his election, Tako served on the Surrey Board of Trade and the Surrey Business Improvement Association, on the Langley Memorial Hospital Board for two terms, and volunteered at Elim Housing Society for over 10 years. A graduate of Trinity Western University and UBC, Tako practiced law for 30 years in the Fraser Valley.

Since 2019, Tako has held various roles such as Chair of B.C. Caucus, Deputy Shadow Minister for Employment, and member of the Standing Committee on Public Safety.

In the fall of 2022, the Hon. Pierre Poilievre appointed Tako as Shadow Minister for Pacific Economic Development. In this role, Tako is focused on building a stronger, more prosperous region through partnering federal government support with grassroots organizations. From ports and transportation infrastructure to film and tourism industries, the West Coast has a lot to offer Canada and the world.

Tako is also currently a member of the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights, the Canada Korea Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group, and the Canada-Israel Inter-Parliamentary Group, among others.

Tako is currently the Member of Parliament for Langley – Aldergrove which will become Langley-Township – Fraser Heights at the next election. He is committed to representing the interests of Langley Township – Fraser Heights on many important local issues, such as flood mitigation, housing affordability, and transportation.

Tako and his wife, Inga, have called Langley home for many years. They have 5 children and 15 grandchildren.

About Langley Township - Fraser Heights Electoral District Association (EDA)

Arising from parts of the old Langley-Aldergrove, Cloverdale-Langley City and Fleetwood-Port Kells ridings, the new Langley Township-Fraser Heights Electoral District Association will come into effect at the next federal election. Specifically, it encompasses:

A) that part of Metro Vancouver Electoral Area A consisting of Barnston Island;

B) that part of the Corporation of the Township of Langley lying easterly and northerly of a line described as follows: commencing at the intersection of the easterly limit of the City of Langley and 48 Avenue; thence easterly along said avenue to Murray Creek; thence generally southeasterly along said creek to 40 Avenue; thence easterly and southeasterly along said avenue to 240 Street; thence northerly along said street to Fraser Highway; thence easterly along said highway to 264 Street; thence northerly along said street to Highway 1 (Trans-Canada Highway); thence southeasterly along said highway to the easterly limit of said township; and

C) that part of the City of Surrey lying northerly of Highway 1 (Trans-Canada Highway).
